Today’s walk started off in sunshine but rapidly moved to the weather in the distance of this photo. I really need to get some proper waterproof leggings as to say I got a good drenching is an understatement. However the top half was toasty warm and dry which was all that mattered. It is still warm here and though it rained loads it was still a pleasant day out with the sun coming out for the lunch stop even. I actually like walking in the rain at this time of the year it is refreshing and when you get to the end of the walk with a glowing sense of satisfaction it’s not the end of the world if ones trousers are a bit damp. Today ended with an impressive deluge, I had been keeping an eye out behind me as I raced up the final hill and I could see the clouds heavy with rain chasing me and in somewhat comedic and film like timing as the door slammed shut the skies opened. Sitting there in the shelter and warmth of the car I thought how wonderful the invention that I was sitting in was. That it had transported me to a place of beauty that one hundred years ago would not have been possible under normal conditions and that it was providing me with my own little world protected from the outside world. It took me back to my first car and the freedom that it gave me and my friends and the adventures we had with it and the similar peering out through clouded windows to see what lay ahead. Now if only I hadn’t drunk all my tea earlier life would have been almost perfect.
I must also look for a new pair of hiking boots as my last pair gave up the ghost earlier this year thankfully after the winter spell but I feel the damper weather coming and need to get prepared so not to have an excuse for not going out.
It seems like weeks since I last went for my daily walk where in reality it’s only a few days, well actually seven days now and I can tell in both muscles and mind. I noted last night that looking out around 10:15pm that it was already starting to get dark and a bit of a shock due to feeling like it had been quite some time that we had been enjoying the long summer nights well I say long summer nights more like long nights well I say long nights…. I really need to look up the stats for the weather this summer as on the whole it has not been the best.
There is a definite chill in the air I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an Indian summer but I have an eye on the winter layer now that we tilt away from the sun.
Anyway normal service has and will be resumed.
A reminder that this is mid-July! and it looks like December. Very humid too I fully expected the thunderstorms the phone app predicted, but unless I slept through it/them never materialised. I rather extreme crop of the image but I like the graininess it still amazes me the quality of pics my phone takes as I recently found an old Nokia camera phone I had 10 years ago and there is just no comparison to my 5S.
Yesterday on the way to supper I saw this scene and thought wow. This was shortly before the heavens opened and thankfully had stopped by the time we had reached our destination. But for me its the light, that small patch of light that captures the scene, had I been a minute either side of the picture it would have looked a very different way. When I see these windows of light I think how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. But this particularly reinforced that feeling. We are meant to be on the receiving end of a weather plume coming up from Spain bring with it warm temps and stormy weather, well this certainly looked like the beginning of it and was it ever humid.
Being the driver I wasn’t able to drink but I was introduced to a couple of great cheeses for my abstinence and one stood out for me. Yes I do live the high life.. and no I don’t go to London to buy my cheeses but from a rather great local shop. Along with some charcoal crackers I have never tried before, I was impressed with the combination. The fellow guests were discussing the merits of certain wines but I have to admit I much prefer an Ale to go with cheese, don’t get me wrong I won’t turn down a good wine but I just think a good beer wins out.
Awoken to another day of rain! When will it end. I don’t remember having so little sun light in recent years but then the mind can play tricks on you but I do long for some vitamin D and happiness inducing rays. Ready? Ready now?
